Laboratory for Biobased Nanomaterials
Surviving on a planet with limited resources to support our increasing global population is one of the greatest challenges humanity has faced so far. The materials of the future need to be inspired by Nature, and designed to constitute a circular economy. Our Lab, at the Chemistry Department of Swansea University, focuses on applying computational chemistry, multiscale atomistic modeling, and machine learning to develop biobased nanostructured materials that are intrinsically designed for reuse as well as performance. Our work includes fundamental research on carbon nanomaterials, lignin, nanocellulose, or nanochitin; bridging the gap between quantum chemistry and chemical engineering to develop materials with application in energy storage, infrastructure or agriculture.
